07:56 AM ET 12.17 | The market for free-agent starter Edwin Jackson appears to be heating up. [Jackson] has been in contact with the Padres, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reported Sunday. Jackson, 29, posted a 4.03 ERA (98 ERA+) in 189 2/3 innings for the Nationals in 2012. ... According to Jim Bowden of ESPN.com, Jackson and the Padres are negotiating a three-year contract. Jackson made $11 million on a one-year contract with Washington last season and is likely to receive a similar average annual value on the contract that he receives this offseason. The Rangers, who missed out on potential targets Zack Greinke and Anibal Sanchez, are also interested in Jackson, according to Heyman.

Red flag should come up when you are talking about Jackson who has bounce around from team team and his a career 500 pitcher at best and teams still overpay for his services.

This guy gets kicked around from team to team on a yearly basis. Hard to keep track. FN doesn't even know which uniform to show him in

Cone was a hired gun- teams actually wanted him, I wouldn't put him in the same category as Jackson.

Pitching is hard to come by. The guy is a mediocre pitcher, but you know what you are getting in him.

EJax is too good to be a bottom of the rotation starter, not good enough to be the top. But he can pitch a damn good game (at least for the first half of the season). He's a tricky commodity.
