Nick Saban says doctors blew Drew Brees-to-Dolphins deal

04:37 AM ET 12.18 | Nick Saban was asked on Miami radio about his first offseason with the Dolphins and specifically the search for a quarterback. The way it happened was the Dolphins had the choice of signing recently cut Chargers quarterback Drew Brees or trade for someone's expendable starter. The Dolphins traded for Minnesota Vikings starter Daunte Culpepper. But Saban explicitly stated that's not how things were supposed to go down. Ever since that decision, and Drew Brees' Hall of Fame career took off in New Orleans, choosing Culpepper over Brees has been a cloud hanging over Saban and his ill-fated shot at being a pro coach. Brees and the Dolphins had a deal agreed upon in principal, and all that needed to happen was for Brees to pass his physical to make the deal official. Saban said that Dolphins doctors are the ones to blame because they told him Brees was not fit to be an NFL quarterback.

I like how the Miami Dolphins passing on Drew Brees stories continue to surface as if they're relevant.

That only happened over six years ago. So I guess it's still "news". To someone. Somewhere.

They're just greasing the pan for the fifty "Saban to (your team here)" threads to come in the next couple weeks.

For a guy not interested in coming back to the NFL he's sure spending a lot of time setting the record straight. The man doth protest too much, me thinks.

"Saban said that Dolphins doctors are the ones to blame because they told him Brees was not fit to be an NFL quarterback."

Funny... He seems to be able to ignore the academicians who tell him some of his players aren't fit to be college students. Called this one wrong Nick. Face it. It was a risky decision. Hindsight and all makes you look bad.
