Rays still interested in Morales?

08:13 AM ET 12.18 | Not all that long ago, it seemed the Rays might be willing to part with a starting pitcher if it meant landing Kendrys Morales. Would they do the same today? Morales is much more available now than he was in July, when sources say the Rays asked for him and the Angels said no. The Angels are in a different spot now, after their surprise signing of Josh Hamilton left them with an outfield surplus. While that could mean they trade Peter Bourjos or Mark Trumbo, their preference is to move Morales and/or Vernon Wells, according to sources. Moving Morales would allow Trumbo to become the designated hitter, opening up the outfield for Bourjos to join Hamilton and Mike Trout. The problem is that the Angels could really use another starting pitcher.

......morales is the 2nd best hiter on the team after trout....rays are very smart....angels not so much....thye should instead trade pujols who will be far worse this year than last.....

The Rays could be one bat away from getting back into the playoffs and maybe even winning the division.

I think the Rays could have done better dealing Shields to the Angels for some established bats.

Morales would look awfully good hitting behind Longoria. You have to keep in mind the Rays are on a tight budget and established bats get expensive in a hurry.

I am really hoping we keep Morales, over Borjous.

the angels could use another starter? you mean really?? as far as i know angels DO NOT HAVE more than one quality starter in weaver and if lucky the halos may have a slim chance IF wilson regain his pitching form in the next season!!!!

morales its by far the best hitter together with mike trout, and the halos can't trade pujols because the hefty contract/ same thing with vernon wells except wells contract its much smaller than pujols,

I say keep Morales for now and trade him in July. It's Morales walk year and I bet he puts up some good numbers. But he is a Boras client and you know how the Angels are with him!!!!

December 18, 2012  11:51 AM ET

angels NEED not one not two but 3 solid conssistent starters, the halos can denied as much as they want but their rotation its by far the worse in the american league!!

angels should trade vernon wells for let say hellickson and chris archer, that would give a better opportunity to the team win more games plus, the team's rotation would be more efficient with qualiy pitchers,

December 18, 2012  11:56 AM ET

blaton and hanson can't guarantee any good amount of games without any backwards results, should that happen??halos should had to have a backup plan and lets not forget hanson has problems in his pitching shoulder and every year its droping the MPH in his pitching stats!!!

December 18, 2012  12:00 PM ET

the angels are unlikely to resign morales, should the halos trade him now? i think it would be find IF the halos hold him untill the mid-season after that the angels could trade him either for prospects or a regular starter!!

December 18, 2012  12:02 PM ET

but best options in this time and with all the angels needs in their thin rotation?? trade vernon wells and get as many starters as they can get!!!

Agree.

December 18, 2012  12:45 PM ET

the halos DO HAVE ENOUGH OPTIONS/ trade bourjos and conger for a starter/ or trade vernon wells for two top pitchers/ or trade morales as earlier as april!!!

IF the angels think that with blaton and hanson have met their needs in their rotation,, they are dead wrong/ halos rotation its weak from number one spot to the number fifth spot, don't know exactly what would happen in the beginning of the next season!!!

December 18, 2012  12:52 PM ET

last year stumble start of the season was saved by mike trout, but WHO would safe them next season if the halos are to collapse earlier next season?? i got a feeling the starters could be a major problem!!!

December 18, 2012  12:55 PM ET

pitching its never enough, the angels need to start to built a new core of starters, starters WHO the manager should be able to count on them, halos do not need starters WHO can give the game away in one or two innings rather the angels need stability and durability in the first 7 innings in every game though!!

December 18, 2012  12:57 PM ET

there are teams WHO like to get a regular SS and the angels could trade AYBAR for a pitcher plus the halos have enough SS in their minors!!!
