Can't agree, Toad.
MLB shortstops are going at the price the Sox paid, and for more years and dollars if they have more credentials than Drew.
He's anothere "bounce-back" candidate, after a poor year following a serious injury.We'll see if he can hit, but in the meantime he's insurance since Iglesias has not shown he can hit MLB pitching.
They won't say it , but the next couple of years are Bridge Years until the farm system begins producing the next generation of Red Sox winners (at least we all hope so).
The two remaining off-season issues are: Is Ellsbury trade-bait, and if so, for what position/player? I"d like to see another strong young Triple A pitcher.

Thing is, they're overpaying, but the deals are short-term. This is a one-year deal. If it doesn't work out, see ya!

These are actually pretty smart signings by the Sox. Veterans, lots of experience, not too old, good clubhouse guys...solid lineup.

Problem is, other than Dempster, no pitching has been added. That has been the big problem all along for the last two years.

I would love to see them add Edwin Jackson on a two- or three-year deal.
