08:16 AM ET 12.18 | During this free agent winter, Anibal Sanchez was going to wind up a very wealthy man, but it appears he could have signed for more. Sanchez's agent, Gene Mato, said that Sanchez left money on the table at the winter meetings, when an unnamed team offered him a contract, but that Sanchez didn't want to make his decision on money, but rather comfortability. "Fortunately, he had a night to sleep on it," Mato said of the decision between the Tigers and Chicago Cubs, who reportedly offered a five-year, $75 million contract on Thursday. "The next morning, he called me early in the morning and said, 'Listen, I want to be a Tiger.' It was pretty clear from the beginning, to me, that Anibal really wanted to be a Tiger."

It was just a matter of, "Do I sign with a winner, or with a perrenial loser?"

Sounds like a no-brainer to me. Refreshing to see that it wasn't all about the Benjamins for him.

So he decided to go to a conteder where he would still be set for life rather than for a few extra bucks and be on a laughing stock.

It looks like the opportunity for FA's to play for the Cubs these days is going to be a tough sell for Theo.

So who was the unnamed team who offered him more money? No one offered him more money than the Tigers. So it WAS really all about the money after all. Pfft.

There was a mystery team that offered him a higher contract during the winter meetings than the one he signed with Detroit.

Regardless of whether the Cubbies actually made Sanchez an offer, it certainly seems like several agents have been using Theo to try to inflate other teams' offers even though their clients had no intention of signing with the Cubbies.

Oh I seriously doubt this "mystery team" topped the Tigers 80 million dollar bid
