Mythmaking on both sides

08:22 AM ET 12.18 | To what extent is this particular lockout the end of the innocence for hockey? Anyone who has more than a few tattered threads of innocence left has been hiding under a rock since before Peter Pocklington traded Wayne Gretzky. ... All that's happening now is a further erosion of those myths we once clung to as if they were absolute truths: that hockey players really are the best, the humblest, the most accommodating, the most human, of pro athletes. So much different from baseball and basketball players. So passionate, so unselfish ... And that owners are really guardians of a public trust -- not so much businessmen as hockey fans who want the same things the fan does, but just happen to have the money to make them happen.

Still take the hockey pucks over the majority of other pro athletes...

I dunno. The NFL and NBA players, by and large, had the common sense to shut the eff up during their lockouts. That alone, this nonstop twitter drivel being spouted by players, is getting pretty damn old. The Lupul thing on Sunday really sent me over the top.

While I see your point, it should also be noted that all of those guys have a better "bargaining position" than does the NHLPA
Also, I think actually these guys shooting their mouths off, if that's what it can be termed...is partly based in being regular type guys in most cases...

If by "regular type", you mean "make 40x what I do in a year, get preferential treatment anywhere they go, and no matter how ugly they are still manage to take down dimes", then yes, regular type guys.

To be fair, they were playing before they could really get stupid. The NFL players didn't lose any time, the NBA players barely did. Plus, the NHL players are probably getting sick of always getting locked out.

Add coddled throughout their youth and for the most part not even doing the basket weaving courses an NFL/NBA college wannabe does.

Not true. I start viewing seriously after the All Star Game more or less, when things get serious.
