02:01 PM ET 12.18 | Nick Saban's name has been repeatedly connected to the Browns, but according to a report, the Alabama coach would be unlikely to take the job in Cleveland. Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland reports that it's likely that Mike Lombardi will be the next Browns GM. Lombardi has a solid working relationship with Joe Banner and would yield final personnel control to the CEO of the Browns. One the other end, Grossi cites sources that say there is "zero chance" Saban would work with Lombardi, and that the Alabama coach would not work with his former colleague "in a thousand years. Saban said this week that he didn't think it was "fair" to leave Alabama, and Grossi adds that he's leaning towards staying in Tuscaloosa.

Cleveland needs to stand pat and keep building, they have an up and coming team. Add some receiving options, and depth along the lines, and they're competing.

Well,we all know what firm assurances from Nick Saban on how he's not considering anothere job a worth.
I think Michael Lombardi wants to be GM of Cleveland, and NFL Network airing reports on that 'special' group that made up the staff of the last Browns team before they left (which included Lombardi and Saban) is some propaganda to generate interest. But the reality is that Shurmur has turned the Browns into a team that nobody really wants to play (you're supposed to just blow them away, but they are now turning into very tough opponent, especially at home). Anybody paying attention wil take advantage of that and let this team grow. They don't need to be blown up and started over.

It wasn't fair to leave Miami, either, as Saban pointed out right before he left Miami.

Great story. And a footnote: Saban is also not likely to be nominated for Secretary of State.

Saban is a college coach. The NFL doesn't suit his style of coaching. He'll stay at Bama, where he can be king.

Could care less if Shurmer stays and the head coaches change, HOWEVER, hiring Lombardi would be a HUGE MISTAKE....Heckert has ton one hell of a job, nearly every pick the guy made ha panned out even the later ones. This is how you build a great team. Why change and roll the dice on Lombardi when the GM in place is doing fantastic?? Kinda like when they get rid of Mangini along with the special teams coach, then in ONE year Cleveland went from having the best special teams in the NFL to one of the worst. Never understood why these guys can't keep personnel when they are doing a good job.
