Why the clock's ticking on Dolphins' D

07:56 AM ET 12.19 | The Dolphins' D, which ranks statistically high in a number of categories, may have a nearly approaching expiration date. Randy Starks, Sean Smith and Chris Clemons are free agents this offseason, and there is no guarantee all three of those starters will re-sign. In fact, the Dolphins would be lucky to retain two of the three. ... And the very next year defensive tackle Paul Soliai, a Pro Bowler last year, blossoming safety Reshad Jones, outside linebacker Koa Misi, and cornerback Nolan Carroll -- four more starters -- become free agents. Also, heading into 2014 the cap number of the team's two tackling machines -- Karlos Dansby ($11 million) and Kevin Burnett ($7 million) becomes astronomically bloated for players who will be past their prime.

I guess the flip side is if they sign somewhere else, then your cap opens up a bit and you go bargain hunting. Regardless, the teams that are successful over time have solid drafts and then coach those guys up to take over someday.

I just hope teams like this and the skins don't let some wins go to their head. Keep rebuilding until you consistantly contend
