Dodgers shopping Ethier, Red Sox interested

It's been no secret that the Red Sox have been interested in Ethier for some time now. I have doubts though that he'll be made available in a trade.

I would be interested in Ethier, too, but, I will assume the cost to get him is prohibitive. But I hope that Cashman at least makes an inquiry.

This is exactly the kind of contract that Boston is trying to avoid. I really don???t see this happening.

Unless they want to take John Lackey in return.

Why would you give Ethier to get Bourne or Swisher? I hope they do it, but it makes no sense.

Not a fan of Bourne - average to me....

" five-year, $85 million contract"....Money is the only reason I can think of, both Swisher and Bourn are a step down.

The only reason this would make sense is if they got some top prospects for Ethier. I heard an interview with the Dodgers GM the other day, and he said McCourt let the Dodger's farm system go to hell. It's going to take a few years to make it productive again. Some quality prospects would jump start that.

Dodgers like Bourne as their leadoff hitter. Ethier would be great in Fenway. If the Dodger's eat a significant portion of his contract, I say the Red Sox should Pounce. Then our outfield would be Vic, Ethier, Jacoby....

Ellsbury for Either could work for both teams. The Dodgers would get the CF they want which would allow them to move Kemp to RF. They could use the money they were paying Either to resign Ellsbury.

Boston could move Victorino to CF until Jackie Bradley is ready to be brought up in 2014 to take over the position.

The Red Sox could also use another left-handed bat in their lineup.

Swisher would be perfect for LA LA Land. Not because he would help them, but because that's where he spends his time when he's at the plate, or fielding a fly ball in the postseason.
