Fresno State, UNLV contacted by Big East

04:23 PM ET 12.19 | The Big East's global expansion efforts continue. The latest to be approached, according to Dennis Dodd, are the Mountain West's Fresno State and UNLV. Adding the pair would be a good way for the Big East to ensure Boise State and San Diego State stick around.

Another in a long line of desperation maneuvers. Big East is still trying to paint itself as a big boy conference despite its increasing instability, its decreasing leverage, and it's newfound status as a mid-major. Their fervent expansion is going to cause the league to fracture like the WAC did in 1999.

Sadly, the true path for the Big East was to reinvent themselves as a b'ball-centric conference, and allow any members with football teams to make outside football-only affiliations. The path that they're on will only lead to doom and sorrow.
