Calvin Johnson, Adrian Peterson working on new records

02:41 AM ET 12.20 | All the NFL record hype is focused on Adrian Peterson's pursuit of Eric Dickerson's single season rushing total. But while everyone's attention is in Minnesota, Calvin Johnson is marching toward a mark that no receiver has ever been able to achieve, not even Jerry Rice. Jerry Rice finished the 1995 season for the San Francisco 49ers with 1,848 yards receiving, which still stands as an NFL single season record. Calvin Johnson is aiming to break that record and become the first NFL receiver to crack the 2,000 yard mark. While Eric Dickerson is justifiably and rightfully defensive of Adrian Peterson breaking his single season rushing record, Rice isn't as protective of his single season record, and welcomes the opportunity for Johnson to break his mark.

That's right. It's like intramural soccer. It's not about winning or losing, it's about participation, and having fun, and everyone playing the best they can.

Some of these records are a bit over blown. Quarterbacks throw the ball a lot more now so passing/receiving stats are going to go up. Sacks are going to go up too since there are more chances to rush the qb. Peterson's rushing numbers are great. He is the only offense the Vikings have and teams still have trouble slowing him down. His offensive line should get a lot of praise for opening up the defenses for him.
