Brees banking on Payton return

08:03 AM ET 12.20 | As Sunday's game relates to Sean Payton and Jason Garrett, forgive Saints fans for seeing two sides to New Orleans at Dallas. If the Saints (6-8) topple the Cowboys (8-6) in Dallas, the coaching seat for Garrett probably continues to heat up. If the Cowboys miss the playoffs because of these final two weeks, Garrett's job certainly will be in question. ... Quarterback Drew Brees said he doesn't stay up at night pondering Payton's next move. "I truly believe that he will be here," Brees said. "But with everything else going on, we're really trying not to think about it because it would just be distractions at this point." Brees added: "I haven't even thought for a second that he wouldn't be here, honestly."

Nothing to see here... Garrett isn't going anywhere and neither is Payton.

I'm not so sure about the Garrett part Otis. Payton may stay in N.O. but since Jerry won't remove himself, Garrett may have to take the fall, if the Cowboys don't make the playoffs. Then again he stayed with Phillips way longer than he should've.

Unfortunate but seemingly true.
Especially if they pull the season out of the crapper.
As for Bum's boy, they should have kept him to run the defense.

Yeah, Garrett may be in trouble. But there's not a chance on earth Payton would work for a meddling owner like Jones. And since Jones wants to run the show, I'm not sure he'd hire Payton, who wouldn't put up with meddling.

If Dallas Wins ----- Jones will be content with Garrett.
If New Orleans Wins ---- and Dallas loses again next week eliminating them from the playoffs, then Jerry Jones goes alll in, he takes a dump truck full money and dumps it in Sean Paytons front yard.
So the question is; Will Drew Brees throw the game in order to keep his beloved coach?

Believe the Saints will win the Dallas game. Drew Brees and company want to end the season on a good note even if it only means they beat teams and took them out of the playoffs. Drew Brees is too much a professional to throw a game for any reason. Know some teams have done that for draft choice places but that is not the way of the Saints. Think what you want about the Saints but they are professional in all sense of the word. "Goody" Goodell was wrong in his assessment of the Saints and any "Bounty" scandal.
Don't know what the hold up is in the negotiations with Sean Payton as they had an agreement before the arse Goodell stepped in and voided it. Now it appears his agent wants more money so his 10% is bigger. Hope Saints and Payton get together soon so as not to ruin the Saints holidays.
C'mon, Payton, how much money do you need. Sure your wife is crabbing you about what she could have bought with the money Goodell took from you with the suspension but get over it and sign. At the Saints you will have money, love and respect and an owner who does not stick his nose and every other part of his body in your coaching.

Agreed. Brees hates to lose. Throwing a game would go against his DNA. Now the Saints' defense on the other hand...

Garrett probably returns, regardless of how the 'Boys finish the season. There were 90,000+ fans in Cowboys Stadium for the Steelers game. That's what matters most to Jerry.
But...if Jerry did decide to go after Payton, I can see it happening if Jerry offered the $8 Million per season that Payton will get in NO.
At equal money, even with Jerry's meddling, just look at the choices:
Cowboys Stadium vs The Superdome - Newest, biggest, most glamorous vs The Doo-Doo Dome
DFW Metroplex vs New Orleans - Modern, upscale, chic vs Old, humid, dirty
The Cowboys vs The Saints - America's Team vs the Aint's
If Jerry wants to win, he will go after Payton and if Payton wants to be at the top of the NFL, he will go to the Cowboys.

Ever notice how both Al Davis and Jerry Jones at the end of their careers picked lousy coaches? The thing in common -- dementia.

I honestly would not be surprised if Jerry Jones names himself the coach one day. With regard to Payton, I think he's a snake, but he's a good football coach. What do all the successful teams and coaches in the leage have in common - an elite QB. He has one of the best in Brees. So he would be wise in staying in a situation where he has that tool at his disposal. And no, Romo IMO would not be considered an elite QB.
