Rangers running out of options

08:11 AM ET 12.20 | This offseason, Texas has lost out on both Josh Hamilton and Zack Greinke, and big-name trade options have passed it by, too. They are trying, meeting with Edwin Jackson and A.J. Pierzynski, and Cody Ross as well, according to a report from Ken Rosenthal of Foxsports.com. The Rangers are also in on Nick Swisher, sources say, and they've discussed Adam LaRoche. ... They're said not to love Pierzynski, but their catchers for now are Geovany Soto, Eli Whiteside and Luis Martinez. Ross or Swisher makes some sense, but there are those in the organization who'd rather not block the progress of young Leonys Martin. LaRoche could be a fit at first base, but the current plan seems to be to move Ian Kinsler there to make room for Jurickson Profar at second base.

Rangers have had a rough off season. They are going backwards and the Angels got better. Kinsler to first base is a good idea. He's not a good defensive second baseman.

wiseup: Cody Ross is no Josh Hamilton but has been quite serviceable.his defense is average and he has hit for a decent average with some power. I would consider him over Swisher. Pierzynski would be an upgrade over Soto. Pierzynski can be a little abrasive but has talent.

The Rangers need another 20HR left handed bat. I think Murphy can take a step up this year and Profar hits OK from the left side, but they need another threat to worry right handed pitching.

They made the decision this offseason to go with the kids (in the minors) when they wouldnt give up Andrus nor Profar for Upton. Its risky to bet your whole future on some kids playing big time baseball. Move Olt to OF. Bring up Profar to play 2nd. Move Kinsler to 1b. Bring the kid from Cuba (Leonys Martin) to play Center field with Kittenface. Bring up Perez to fill out the rotation.

Going with some kids makes sense epecially with the talent Profar has, but expecting all the kids to peform this season may be asking tooo much. In the AL, the Jays, Angels and Tigers all improved, but the Rangers at least for the moment have taken a step back. I wonder if they'll flip one of their prospect at mid season to fill a need on the roster.

He doesn't seem to have the physical stature usually associated with a major league first baseman.

Sometimes the best off-season move a franchise can make is no move. The Rangers have lots of young talent and it's time to see if those youngsters can excel at the MLB level.
Losing Hamlilton to free agency didn't hurt...losing him to the Angels did. That was a calculated move by Hamilton, too. I think the guy is a complete lowlife after all the Rangers organization did for him. Sure, he drove in lots of runs but he also stayed hurt, is a head case, requires 7/24/365 babysitting and he quit on the Rangers this past September...after struggling in June-July because he decided to quit smokeless tobacco in the middle of the season. I wrote last spring and still wish the Rangers had traded his ungrateful ass last year.
I choose to believe that Daniels and Nolan Ryan know a lot more about the Rangers and baseball than the rest of us. I trust them to do what's best for the team both now and for the future.

the rangers would need to trade top prospects for a starter pitcher nolasco from florida??
or sign carlos zambrano as a last resort?
kyle lohse could be to expensive to sign him anyways,
the texas team would need to trade prospects to the dodgers for starters, and i mean prospects
even IF rangers refuse, unless they DO NOT WANT TO BE A COMPETETIVE TEAM NEXT SEASON!!!

you have to sacrifice something in order to get better either in rotation/lineup/or bullpen/
rangers do not have any other choice, there are available starters through the trade market should rangers use that simple approach?? or they are collecting prospects!!??
