08:18 AM ET 12.20 | The Gary Andersen era touched down in a literal sense on Wednesday at 3:25 p.m. in Wisconsin, but not after the Badgers' new head coach completed a late night of business in Logan, Utah. The 48-year-old Andersen spent Tuesday night informing his staff and the Aggies players of his decision. He called every player on the team individually -- many were already home on Christmas break --which totaled more than 100 phone calls and took him until about 2:30 a.m. Andersen told people in Logan, Utah, he felt the way the story broke, without being able to tell his players first, put him in a bad spot. Many of the players were impressed by Andersen's efforts to reach out to them and posted their thoughts on Twitter.

Could you see Petrino doing this?

He'd probably be saying something more like "Hey, dude, yeah, I was nabbed lying to my boss, cheating on my wife, and hiring my mistress onto the university's payroll, and guess what? I got fired, can you believe that schizzit?!? These people don't care ANYTHING about winning!!!"

I am impressed. Not only does he appear to be an honest, caring coach, I believe he will be a nice mesh with what Whiskey likes to do!

Coach A2 is a quality human with mad coaching chops (as Dennis Miller would say). While I wish BB good luck with the Hogs, I believe the Badgers have traded up. Too bad the USU players couldn't have heard it from Coach Andersen first though. On Wisconsin!

Agree, but then, I don't believe that the leak/release of news was anticipated by Andersen. Glad to see a Badger on the threads. Welcome to FN.

I wonder who will get the bill for the phone calls? Was the phone he used paid for by Utah State or a personal phone. Secondly, Urban gave a call to BB and said he is still going to go after BB recruits at Arky.

Before you guyz canonize Gary Andersen, remember that as late as Nov 30 he PROMISED that he would not leave Utah State. His promise was such that the university even issued a press release to announce it and the renegotiation of his contract.
