Kane's days in Winnipeg numbered

08:29 AM ET 12.20 | Earlier this week, Evander Kane tweeted a picture of himself holding stacks of cash in Las Vegas, something that understandably rubbed many hockey fans the wrong way and may have muddied his future with the Jets. Kane signed a six-year, $31.5-million contract this summer with the Jets. He won't finish it in Winnipeg. Kane will someday be traded. He hasn't played one game under his new ticket but the writing is on the wall. GM Kevin Cheveldayoff got term and a palatable cap hit just north of $5 million when he signed Kane. He's an asset now and a portable one. ... The Jets won't be ready to give up on Kane just yet. But he's making it difficult to base the franchise's foundation on him. Kane's act will eventually change or it will force a trade. Bet on the trade.

Lmao so a rich athlete, who for a change has been pretty quiet during the lockout, has some fun with a few dollar bills and all the sudden the Jets are trading their best player?! I thought the Sun was bad...

Leave the kid alone. He was trying to be cool or funny. Players in the past did a lot of stupid things but they didn't have the aid of social media to broadcast it.
We were all young and dumb once in our life. Give the kid a break. He wasn't charged with DUI or beating up his girlfriend - he took a photo. People need to relax. Plus, stop all the cyber bullying - pretty tough sitting behind a keyboard putting people down.

All of our days are numbered tomorrow the world ends and there will be no hockey :(

I agree with this. If a young man who suddenly has buckets of cash takes photo...this is an issue?
Poor taste for the average fan, especially during a lockout? yeah, maybe...
but let's get some perspective here

Twitter in the hands of pro athletes seems to do them more harm than good.

The world ended when they started this lockout.

I do not understand this story at all. They say he's going to be traded because he's having a good roll in Vegas. And who are these supposed hockey fans that have been "understandably rubbed the wrong way". I'm a huge fan and say good for him, and win back the money I lost 4 years ago. Does the source of this story come from little Jimmy and his road hockey pals...give me a break

Kane had the right idea. World going to end -- I'd like the be in Vagas staying in a suite with hands full of cash too. Good for him!

His behavior off the ice last season (rumor based or not) wasn't exactly stellar and with the lack of Jets hockey this year, the fans are upset...at least they aren't Jets football fans!

trust me, as a NY'er, I know they can be easily distracted by shiny objects, so they're no problem. let's face it, when your big cheer is spelling the team's name (a huge accomplishment for some of them, believe me) let's just assume MENSA isn't lurking about

What the hell is all this outrage? Ridiculous. Wealthy young athlete has fun in Vegas, posts pic to Twitter. Yawn. Of course, he is black...

WTF does his color have to do with anything ? Great post until the last 5 words

Sorry, but honestly feel like if a caucasian did this it wouldn't be as big of an issue.

I read it different. I thought he was going for a take that if it was a white player it wouldn't be such a big deal???? That is one problem with the internet - you don't know if a guy is trying to be ironic or a dick.

December 20, 2012  10:07 AM ET

The kid was obviously having fun...blown way out of proportion..i thought it was funny as hell....but they aint gonna trade away their franchise player..its not like he bullied a cab driver or refused to go to the white house.

Agree with that. Pissing your money away when seems like an endless supply may seem like fun but it ends. These are a few athletes who went belly up:

I think his point was that Kane is being picked on cos he's black. It's a ridiculous point to make when you consider the two individuals mentioned by BGM, who are white and got a lot more grief than this.

Whenever I shake my head at the train wreck Eagles season, I think of the Jets and feel better knowing things could be a whole lot worse :)
