NHL cancels games through January 14

10:07 PM ET 12.20 | The world may be coming to an end. For the NHL that is. In the latest flexing of muscles, the NHL showed the Players' Association they still control everything. All the stipends and threats to decertify fall on deaf ears. At this point hope is fading for the true fans out there. The puck is frozen in time, forever stuck on the goal line. Skaters don't skate, goalies don't save. Fans start to hate and lose interest every day. There is speculation the league has set mid-January as a deadline to either get a new collective bargaining agreement in place or cancel the entire season. Whether the NHLPA moves to dissolve their union or not it seems to phase the NHL not at all. Unless the two sides get together prior to the end of 2012, this season just will not happen. It will push back all the progress to recapture fans from the disaster in 2004.

Just bite the bullet and cancel the whole season. I don't know why I keep looking at these sites. I guess I hope that it will all fall apart for good. I am just sick and tired of all the BS from both sides. They are both greedy you know whats.

I still have a glimmer of "Hope" that we will see hockey in Music City....but, it is wanning fast as each day goes by.....how sad to see a non-traditional market grow and become competive, just to go down the drain.....

Well that's a relief. We don't have worry about any pesky hockey games getting in the way of our holiday plans. Thanks Gary, you're the best.

No one even misses hockey. It probably ranks below soccer among professional american sports leagues. I personally would rather watch women's lacrosse.

at least now I KNOW that the wj is the only hockey I'll be seeing these holidays.

A recent poll said 58% of Canadians don"t care if the NHL plays this season. Way to go!!

You might have to record Sweden/Russia then coz Canada looked like crap yesterday. Completely undisciplined, sloppy hockey. Suban played okay but let in one bad "Gustavson."

The short side last goal was weak. If they continue to play like that, it's going to be a short tourney.

THIS is why tune-up games shouldn't be televised.

Internationally it's known as the Tommy Salo and in the NHL it's known as the Dan Cloutier...
