Vikings plan to run ball 'right down [Watt's] throat'

08:01 AM ET 12.21 | Both Adrian Peterson and J.J. Watt are running toward history this season, and having them on the same field Sunday provides an interesting sidebar to Vikings-Titans. It's the NFL's fourth-best rushing offense vs. the No. 5-ranked run defense, one that has allowed the league's fewest touchdowns on the ground (three). The Vikings are ready, said right guard Brandon Fusco. "We've seen every look -- eight-, nine-man fronts. Whatever they throw at us, we're going to be able to block it," said Fusco. ... "He's special. Probably the best we're going to see. But we're ready to get after him. It's a fun challenge for us. Go out there, be physical with him and do what we like to do best: run the football right down his throat, basically."

Really? I figured they'd try and throw it around with their elite quarterback.

"No you're not, either," said JJ Watt.

Yeah their elite qb, er, good old whatshisname

December 21, 2012  08:55 AM ET

Are we supposed to be surprised that Minnesota is going to run the ball ?

Let me ponder that one.....

yes run in right at one of the best run stuffers in the league smart thinking you do know watt is the best at stopping runners before the line of scrimmage wait i take that back he is the best at doing it. 36 tackle for losses and that does not include sacks

December 21, 2012  09:27 AM ET

if they go out there trying to show up watt that means they will lose this game

December 21, 2012  09:31 AM ET

Watt will win in this matchup.

December 21, 2012  09:32 AM ET

Doesn't matter who the Team is, AD will run over them. Bears had a good defense, too.

December 21, 2012  09:41 AM ET

Good luck with that, my money is on Watt

December 21, 2012  09:47 AM ET

Everybody feels tougher when they are playing the Titans.

With a lackluster passing game the person or persons who wrote this article hasn't been watching to much football lately. Even the Texans know the only chance the Vikings have in winning this game is to run AP and turnovers.

December 21, 2012  10:14 AM ET

Peterson says he wants to break the season record in this game as well as his own single game record. All i one fell swoop. Are you going to doubt him?

December 21, 2012  10:21 AM ET

I guess it's fair to say Watt won't be getting many sacks or batted balls in this game.

You know... that QB that's married time that hot chick.

December 21, 2012  10:47 AM ET

Glad the Vikings have done well, but very impressed with Adrain Peterson coming back from his operations and being a BEAST this season...

Minnesota might be suprised if they can't.

Back in the days of Lawrence Taylor, it was common knowledge that the way to deal with a strong, mobile defender was to go right at him. Take away his mobility as a factor, and force the slower guys on either side to move and assist with the tackle. Keep subbing on the O-line so he wears down and your line stays fresh. By the third quarter, AD should be able to pop through for a couple of long ones.
