08:04 AM ET 12.21 | In a league that features both the Chiefs and Jets, the Lions may take the lead in an ignominious category. They are an embarrassment. They are impossible to watch. They are a clown show. They slip on the proverbial banana peel on national television. They are the biggest group of underachievers in the NFL. ... Meet your 2012 Detroit Lions. Yes, the Lions (4-10) are back to being a laughing stock. And yet, nobody is really focusing on it to the level it deserves. What a difference a year makes. One year ago, the NFL world was genuinely celebrating the Lions' return to the playoffs. ... What's most alarming about this horrendous season is it raises legit questions about the Big 3 in Motown: Jim Schwartz, Matthew Stafford and Ndamukong Suh.

But hey, how about that Megatron?

He is after all the highest paid WR in the NFL.

At some point, you just retire the category. The Jets are this year's underachievers. But the Lions are the NFL's ALL TIME underachievers. They are in a class by themselves.

Don't fire the players just yet. Time for a coaching change and an attitude change. The talent is there.

December 21, 2012  08:49 AM ET

How about the big bad Bills defense.

December 21, 2012  08:50 AM ET

I would say the Lions have to be the biggest underacheiver of the teams you mention. No one expected the Chiefs to do anything except maybe Peter King, and what, we were supposed to believe fast talking Rex Ryan that Tim Tebow was going to lead NYJ's to the promised land?

Philadelphia's Dream Team- is truly a bust- last year they gave the press the excuse that it was the CBA that got them off to a slow start.

Buffalo- they have been humiliated in some games, and are in last place in a weak division if not for the New England Patriots.

San Diego- Norv Turner should be fired, saying that you might end the season in 2nd place in the AFC West- the worst division in football is not saying much.

Does anybody even care?

Where's that Madden Curse now???

I been a LION fan going way back to 1956 always waiting untell next year.Last year I was hopeing that they turn the corner. But like the Cubies they flat on their face. But I still say the LIONS well win the Surper Bowl before the Cubies see day light again.

Not me.

Punks from the top down.

Looks good on them.

You still haven't identified the root of the problem--the ownership. This team will never be a winner with a Ford in charge. The car company revived only when the family got out of running it and gave it to somebody competent. Same thing here--William Clay will keep on appointing bad management until someone shows him the door. Is their an NFL Commish in the house?

December 21, 2012  10:05 AM ET

Schwartz, Stafford and Suh are the "Big Three"? I guess that's the root of the problem right there.

December 21, 2012  10:18 AM ET

Underachieving? No. They're achieving exactly what they've sought.

Lions are like the Panthers....lost too many close games at the end....just a bit unlucky...

December 21, 2012  11:16 AM ET

Wel,l, at least the Jungle Cats lead in one category. Perhaps, if they put their minds to it, they can set the record for the longest period of cellar-dwelling in all professional sports (including field hockey).

4-10 isn't unlucky. It's sucky.

I guess even the Madden Curse gods figured that if he's on the Lion's, he's suffered enough.

Johnson is bigger than those three.
