Is Steve Nash sandbagging?

08:07 AM ET 12.21 | Steve Nash may yet be the perfect gift for Lakers fans, even if his optimism is outwardly cautious. Not only is his broken left leg still going to be painful for another three to four weeks, even if he's able to play again, his conditioning isn't close to the standards he generally holds himself to. ... "The pain is not the issue," Nash said. "I don't mind playing through the pain. It's more, 'Am I doing damage to it? And is it going to prevent me from playing the rest of this season." ... Scary, right? Demoralizing, too. Until you hear from Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni, who just might've cracked a smile just thinking about Nash's imminent return. "Sandbagging? Well ... He's a two-time MVP so maybe he is."

A sandbagger, a Spaniard with little boy pants, a big with a little boy mind, Metta World (prince of) Peace and an All Star that only passes on passing the ball?

Health has hurt this team all season, but that's the risk you take when bringing in older players. Figure it out.

I agree. Injuries happen and you need to overcome them. But Dwight Howard basically playing himself into shape and not being fully healthy; Steve Nash being out and his back-up getting hurt; Pau admitting that he has been playing injured when he DID play; Jordan Hill missing time with back issues. So not only are their starters hurt, but the back-ups are hurt, too. And I understand that they are excuses, but they are also reasons. Overcoming injuries is one thing, but when so many players are injured, three of them All Stars at their position, it makes a difference. Should they still be better? Sure. But that doesn't discount the fact that they are playing with make-shift rotations.

It would be more like Melo, Kidd and Felton to go along with Amar'e. Then Chandler coming off of back surgery.

I understand that the Wolves have had to deal with injuries and that stuff happens. But the Wolves weren't expected to be a Finals contender and they don't have the pressures on them the way that LA does. I understand that that's another "excuse", but it's the truth. If the Wolves lose three in a row it's not talked about as if the sky is falling the same way that it is with the Lakers from fans, the organization and the media. Adelman doesn't get fired to start the season and they don't start running their third offense in a matter of months. Rubio is a good young point guard, and I think that the Wolves would have made the playoffs last season had he been healthy, but he's not Steve Nash. I'd take Ridnour over Blake any day of the week, though. I'm giving them a pass, either. LA should be better than they are. But there are at least reasons for their struggles.
