Sox willing to move Doubront for Hanrahan?

08:13 AM ET 12.21 | In Boston, Pittsburgh closer Joel Hanrahan appears to be the Red Sox' top target at this point. The Sox tried to get Hanrahan, who has a tremendous slider, in 2010 but could not swing a deal. The Red Sox are said to be competing with the Dodgers for Hanrahan. The Pirates are looking for a starting pitcher, and the Sox would possibly give up Franklin Morales or Alfredo Aceves. The Pirates may be thinking more along the lines of Felix Doubront, which would be a deal-breaker, according to the major league source. A trade would be preferable to free agency for the Sox in trying to help a bullpen that has a number of middle-to-late-inning options. They also don't appear completely sold on Andrew Bailey as closer.

First!

Hamrahan spins round 'n round where he'll end up no one knows. But he won't be still on the Pirates!

Pirates can have Aceves.

Boston will throw in Bailey, a box of Cracker Jacks, and a jersey worn by Heidi Watney.

Oh, hell, Hanrahan? Dude is not the answer. Keep Doubront, invest in Soriano.

Might as well add Andrew Miller. That should sweeten the deal.

I'm not sure the team is going to be good enough to bother to pay good $$$ for a closer.

A lot of frustration can be avoided by minimizing the 9th inning drama.

I know, but if they can spend for Victorino and Gomes, then pony up for a RP.

You don't make yourself better by moving Doubront. It is only a save if you have a lead in the ninth..

We're on the same page. Boston needs starting pitching more than any other position. There's a reason they let Papeldrama go.

well put and I completely agree.

That's a great idea!! How did Bailey work out for them?? You have to hold the lead to bring in a closer.... Hold on to Doubront and Over pay for Soriano like you did for Victorino!! Farrell should have stayed with the Jays... Wonder if Farrell likes Apples?

That Melancon deal worked out well too!!! I have nothing against the Red Sox they have the best Fans in Baseball....

Add in IMO Doubrant is a very good starter that could become even more. You just do not find them cheap on the market. Any trade of him would have to bring me one heck of a position player or two.

Note to red sox fans. soriano is not that good.

I agree 100%. When you need to give pitchers like Dempster $13M in the open market, pitchers like Doubrant are much to valuable to trade for just an average closer.

Makes me sick when we are talking about $13 million for someone's salary.... Anyone's salary.....
