11:45 AM ET 12.21 | According to Newsday's Bob Glauber, the New York Jets are likely to stick with QB Mark Sanchez for the 2013 season. The reason has more to do with money then football reasons--Sanchez is owed $8.25 million guaranteed next season, and would be an unwieldy $17 million cap hit if the team cuts him. Sanchez was benched after yet another round of terrible football last week. Greg McElroy will start in Week 16. Previous reports indicated Sanchez likely wouldn't be back.

They can keep him... it doesn't mean he has to be the starter. That's something the new GM can deal with.

Seattle has a $10 million back up. It can be figured out. That is what GMs are supposed to do.

Nah, all he needs is 1 more year to turn the corner.

They have to pay the money if they keep him or if they cut him. But, if they cut him, they've got another available roster slot.

Their best option is to trade him, but a trade requires someone else willing to take him on.

So, it goes back to giving a big contract to an obviously inadequate player. You can't fix stupid.

if he stays, he stays in an environment where he knows that everyone hates him and knows he's incompetent. Suicide in the making...

I can't imagine another NFL team that would be different. Or CFL. Or LFL.

He'd have the right offensive guard on any LFL team feeling nervous on pretty much every snap.

Will he Stay or Will He Go?

If Sanchez really wanted to play football and had some stones, he'd waive next years' money from the Jets, sign with somebody else and then go work his butt off to be the starter or at least contribute to that team. But, that's somebody with stones. I don't think he's that guy.

But with a fraction of the entertainment value of the old Favre threads...

The Jets need to cut the man who gave Sanchez that guaranteed contract for next season.

December 21, 2012  04:22 PM ET

I'm glad they didn't say he was having a comeback. For that he would have to have a career.

NY Jets... the gift that keeps giving....Merry Christmas
