Bills staying in Buffalo with new lease

11:47 AM ET 12.21 | The Buffalo Bills will remain in Buffalo for at least ten years, as the Buffalo News reports that the team plans on announcing a lease with the state of New York Friday morning that will keep the team from relocating. The Bills will have to pay a crippling $400 million fee if they choose to leave the area - more than the state has given them to stay in the past decade. However, that is cut to $29 million for the seventh year of the deal. The deal also stipulates that the team will kick in $35 million in renovations to Ralph Wilson Stadium, while the state and local government will combine to pay $95 million to update the stadium opened in 1973.

That new stadium project in LA just cost NY taxpayers $95 million. (I forget how much it cost Minnesota taxpayers.) I wonder how much it will cast California taxpayers before it is finally built.

Honestly, where can any team go to? Toronto is not an option and LA is just the cannard. Ralph wilson is getting way up there, the team will be sold and I suspect Jim Kelly will lead a group to buy it.

My guess would be that the advanced age of Ralph is the reason for this 10 year deal. It's a poison apple that goes with the team, so when Ralph is gone the team will have to stay in Buffalo, regardless of who buys it.
It wouldn't surprise me to see Ralph's estate claim that the deal unfailrly reduces the value of the team, because it can't be moved.

$130M for a stadium built 40 years ago? That won't go very far. It's putting lipstick on a pig at best. Good for Bills fans though that they get to keep their team in WNY for the immediate future.

This is where I think the NFL shows its ugly face. Remember! the new cBA deal gave them an extra billion every year off the top just so they could do things like build stadiums to advance the league. That is now a $3 billion pool and counting. Where is the money????

As a Torontonian (and a Bills fan), I hope they end the Toronto fiasco. The Bills belong in Orchard Park - the games in Toronto are a joke (fans are more interested in the half-time show than in the game). Toronto is NOT a football town!

You are right. Toronto is just s one trick pony every year that gives the bills extra millions in the deal. That deal was renewed last week I believe.

What is amazing is that L.A has been without a team fro almost 20 years. I thought waiting 12 years was a long time in Baltimore.

I got friends in the Buff/Niagara area and have been going out to the opener as a kind of tradition. Love it. Yeah, the stadium is old but has character. Three years ago i wasnt used to the weather induced sloping steps and embarrassingly slipped and hit my face on a rail. Ouch. Too many Blue Lights. LOL. Had a great time and am glad they are still there. Tailgaiting is phenomenal there.

You won't see a penny of it until the taxpayers wake up and stop paying for stadiums to benefit the NFL.
But damn, taxpayers have been stupid the last few years.
