Jets give a tryout to Norwegian YouTube sensation

07:12 PM ET 12.21 | The New York Jets are not good this year, there's really no other way to put it. But nothing personifies the Jets' desperation for either some sort of talent or some sort of non-negative attention more than what they have reportedly done. After watching a video of Norwegian kicker Harvard Rugland kicking a football 60 yards, the Jets have given him a tryout with the team. To be fair, the video is pretty insane and we are talking about a team that traded away draft picks so they could have Tim Tebow sit on their bench. So we can't be surprised that high ranking members of the Jets huddled around a computer and proceeded to geek out over a Norweigian dude kicking a football. But even if Rugland doesn't have a future in the NFL --which he very well could given how the league has kicker fever at the moment-- at least he gave us a YouTube video. And in this country, beside beer and religion, do we really need anything else?

While your at it why not give a coach from Man U a spin? Can't be any worse.

I got a Banjo Player on 42nd St, they might want to try out!

You gotta admit that costs are contained when instead of visiting college campuses around the country, your scouting staff sits in the office surfing YouTube all day. Somehow the Jests can even screw up the use of technology.

What a freak show that team has turned out to be. It's almost impossible to believe they went to the AFC championship game twice just a few years ago.

That statement is an insult. To the dog.

Three out of five threads on the jets. SI needs to try just a little harder.

Doesn't the Jets owner realize what a laughing stock his once great team has become?

December 22, 2012  09:48 AM ET

I've seen that video. Looks like there was some creative editing done, but if not why would he even consider the Jets.

Why try when it's right there in front of them...kinda like W's second term.

I'm not sure but the jets seem to be worse than W's second term

December 22, 2012  10:15 AM ET

Maybe not for the nation, but certainly for themselves

I'd prefer to try him as a punter rather than a kicker.

At least he can't do too much damage mid-game if he turns out to be inconsistent.

Here's another guy the Packer passed on. Ya they could have had Tebow too.

December 22, 2012  12:15 PM ET

The jets are hoping this guy can kick 80 yarders. then they can just kick it from the 25 yard line all day long. That's assuming the offence can move the ball from the 20 to the 25 yard line in three plays of course.

This wasn't the first YouTube star they went after, but it turned out the baby-stealing eagle was a fake. They thought they were gonna lead the league in takeaways.
