08:39 AM ET 12.22 | New York Jets coach Rex Ryan refused to say how he'd stack his quarterback depth chart for Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers, but Mark Sanchez is expected to be the No. 2 behind Greg McElroy, a source confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com on Friday. If McElroy, Sanchez and Tim Tebow are all active Sunday, which Ryan said is a possibility, the team wouldn't be required to announce its No. 2 and No. 3 designations. "As competitors, everyone wants to be out there," said McElroy, who took all of the first-team snaps in Friday's practice. "I know Tim wants to be out there, I know Mark wants to be out there and, of course, I want to be out there as well."

So what's the difference between the numbers 2 and 3? Number two gets to hold a clip board while number three gets to flash fake signals to the real QB?

It seems appropriate....he's played like "#2" all year.

As much as I don't think Tebow is a good QB, they jobbed him pretty good. All QB's in the league should be on high alert. Stay away from Ryan and the Jets. Not news though.

Old "Rexy and the Jets" are done.

LOL Yes he has.

Imagine what happens if McElroy struggles badly--that may occur, especially since he wasn't much more than a game manager even at the college level. Would Ryan replace him with Sanchez? Imagine the reaction of the crowd if Sanchez enters the game, especially when Tebow's still riding the bench.

Ryan doesn't appear to have a lick of common sense--he should have just given Tebow at least one start. Then, either Tebow fails and Ryan justifies his season-long decision to limit his playing time even while Sanchez imploded, or Tebow performs well and the Jets have increased his trade value. Of course, Ryan's real fear is that Tebow would play well. That would expose Ryan to be the cluseless windbag that he is, and that's something that his over-bloated ego won't tolerate. Ryan places his ego above what's best for the team, and that will be his ultimate undoing.

Looks like it might not be another Tebow day. Apparently his prayers aren't working anymore. Maybe God whispered in Tebows ear "are you kidding me, with your arm? I let you win a few games in a row last year, how many miracles do you think you qualify for bud?"

If Tebow stands any closer to Rex on the sidelines with his helmet on, Rex has the right to upchuck all over him. Do it Rex, just do it!

?you are beliving media banter-tebow was brought in to be a wildcat guy and gimmick qbhe was never supposed to play or compete for the qb positionthe jets told him to gain weight so he can block, he did, and as a result- he lost his agility and when he was in there, he looked slow and was ineffective- therefore they decided not to utilize him.what other team played their 'back-up' qb as much as tebow if the starter wasn't injured?they owed him nothing but to pay his salary

Either you are a Tebow hater or you're just choosing to be ignorant with that statement. Tebow was brought in AND announced by the JETS themselves as a backup QUARTERBACK!! As far as I know a back up gets to start if the starter gets hurt or is ineffective...... both of those happened.

Please show us where the Jets EVER said Tebow was there just for the wildcat only and I will show you tens more where Rex is saying Tebow is our backup QB.. The other fella was right. Tebow got jobbed and lied to. You sir, are incorrect.

When teams find themselves out of the playoff picture then is the time to start experimenting with different players, different offenses and defenses and get an idea as to what your plans are in the off season.

Worse than a 2, try scouting team QB.

I noticed that you referenced "injured" but omitted "ineffective," which Sanchez most definitely was. Any sane coach would have given the backup a shot when Sanchez first began to implode and exhibited some of the worst starting qb play since the NFL's inception (FIFTY turnovers in 30 games!). Only Ryan would have stuck with Sanchez despite his increasingly horrid performances and no matter how many games the Jets lost. Tebow, like any other backup qb, should have been given a shot at the starting job when Sanchez mightily struggled.

Now that the season's lost and Ryan FINALLY benched Sanchez, Ryan's compounding his mistake by continuing to keep Tebow on the bench, ensuring that no one will ever know if Tebow could have salvaged the Jets' season (he achieved a much bigger turnaround in Denver last year) and also ensuring that the Jets will receive little compensation if they trade Tebow since he's played very few meaningful snaps this year. Ryan's refusal to admit that he made a mistake and bench Sanchez likely cost the Jets a shot at the playoffs and his bloated ego is continuing to hurt the team. If Woody Johnson is wise, Ryan will be gone at the end of the season.
