Nats growing impatient with Adam LaRoche?

09:01 AM ET 12.22 | At the winter meetings early this month, Nationals officials talked about their hope to have free agent first baseman Adam LaRoche signed or not by the end of the year. With that situation remaining unresolved, one official familiar with the team's thinking said General Manager Mike Rizzo could press the issue soon, not quite an ultimatum but something close to it. Under that scenario, Rizzo would tell LaRoche the Nationals would like him to accept their two-year offer, but if not, then they would like to move on with their offseason and commit to Michael Morse at first base. Rizzo could not immediately be reached to comment. Any kind of deadline would, by its nature, be tentative. The Nationals could always change course so long as LaRoche remains unsigned. But they do want to settle LaRoche's situation sooner rather than later. The Nationals have kept a two-year offer available to LaRoche all offseason, but LaRoche wants a three-year deal. He prefers to stay in Washington, but would consider another team for an extra year.

Dude led them in HRs and RBIs this year. I understand he wants to get paid.
The Nationals need to either give him a 3-year deal, or tell him to move on.
Personally, I'd sign LaRoche to the 3, then trade Morse to Tampa or Seattle.

He's 32, they should be happy he's not asking for the 5 year deal most that age try to squeeze out of the club. I'm betting he and his agent are growing impatient with the Nationals as well.

Sorry, he just turned 33. A 3 year contract is still reasonable. Why are the Nationals trying to squeeze this guy when they are on a roll?

They have Morse, Harper, Span and Werth, and don't need all those guys and LaRoche.
One has to go, and LaRoche is not under contract.
I think they'll sign LaR and trade Morse to restock the farm system.

His offense can be replaced with Morse, it is his defense that makes the infielders better. He is gold glove at first. Anyone who signs him will lose their number one pick in 2013 draft. That and 3 year contract keep teams shy from him. Nats signed him 2 years ago and only played one. Injury kept him out entire first year. Nats will not go for 3 years. I think he will be in Washington when all is done.

Yanks should send Mark Tex to D.C. close to his home for a top prospect. Yanks have to rid themselves of the high priced guys who are not superstars.

If you think the Nationals would give a top prospect for Teixeira, you're sadly mistaken.

LAROCHE could be playing in the mariners lineup, but the rangers would be watching, BOURN still available and either the rangers or the mariners could surprise the league,,,

They could move Morse to first and sign Bourn for the outfield and have money left over.

wiseup: The nats should not wait all winter waiting on La Roche. Either offer him the three years ,or tell him to move on. If he is so important defensively over Morse, then if a three year deal will make that happen the what is the issue? Not to mention his offensive production.
