Nick Saban: Alabama won't run away from Manti Te'o

09:54 AM ET 12.22 | Alabama is well aware of who roams the middle of the field on the Notre Dame defense. Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said there is no way his offense can avoid Irish linebacker Manti Te'o, and the Tide don't plan to scheme away from the Heisman Trophy finalist during the BCS national championship game. "The style of player that he is, there's no rhyme or reason," Saban said of Te'o. "He can take on blocks, he's physical, he's tough and very instinctive and he runs well and covers the field well. There's no saying, 'OK, we're going to run at the guy' or 'We're going to run away from the guy' because he's effective either way. That's why he's such a good player."

Tricky Nicky has a lot of practice in running away.

IMO, the key to this game, is if Bama will allow Golson to get outside and run his option plays. Also look for ND's TE to play a big part.

Agreed.
And as for the article, IMO it would be a mistake to radically change schemes against ANY opponent. Just look at the SEC. Too many programs trying to copy Saban's strategies and trying to beat 'Bama at their own game ... with inferior recruiting and coaching. No one is going to out-Saban the original.

IIRC, the Bama offense didn't run away from Honey Badger in last year's NCG. The results (both then and subsequently) speak for themselves.

I don't see the game being that close. ND needed a lot of luck along the way to get where they are. Bama is far more solid of a team all around. ND played a good schedule but Bama is a different animal than they have seen.

What season have you been watching...
Bama was lucky as hell against both LSU and Georgia.

Good point, ND had a little luck against Stanford and Pitt, as did Bama against LSU and Georgia, but IMO I see this game as a 17-10 or 17-14 game, either way!!

Alabama does not run away from anyone. Lacy and Yeldon run you over.
Bama was only lucky against UGA. They beat LSU just fine.

Just fine? They scored with less than a minute to win.

I agree-on paper Bama should win without much trouble. But as we have all seen through the years, anything can happen.

Bama's been tested by some decent to good teams, ND has been in a lot of close scrappy games. Both teams seem pretty tested in different ways. IMO this should be a good game, and if I had to pull for one of these teams, I'd naturally go with the team who has been down n out for years..sorry Bammers.

The Chicago Tribune article was titled "Tide offense won't SCHEME away from Te'o"
FN changed it to "run away from" to appeal to the bravado crowd.
Worked.
