08:22 PM ET 12.22 | San Francisco 49ers defensive end Justin Smith, one of the top defensive players in the NFL, is unlikely to play against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday due to an elbow injury, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. Smith is currently listed as questionable, meaning there's officially a 50-50 chance of him playing on Sunday. The defensive end suffered the elbow injury last week in the second half against the New England Patriots. While Smith attempted to play through it once, it didn't work and he came back to the sidelines and missed the remainder of the game. Smith, 34, has just three sacks in 14 starts this season, but that's complemented by 47 tackles and 18 assists.

Smith is a beast, huge game for SF and they really need him. Sadly, had the regular officials been playing, SF would've already won the NFC West and the game wouldn't have meant much.

Wish he was playing...he's fun to watch. Looking forward to seeing this sack machine next week and in the playoffs.

I'm sure he is proud of his 150+ streak of consecutive games starting and played, but I'm sure his sites are on the Super Bowl and having him ready in top physical condition and playing for the playoffs is what is on everyones mind. The 49ers have the depth where any one person can miss a game and they have someone to fill in. Examples: Kendall Hunter = LaMichael James, Kyle Williams+ Mario Manningham = More touches for Randy Moss and A.J. Jenkins. The depth of the 49ers is their strongest attribute and one of the reasons why they were picked to win the Super Bowl. Having Smith and Manningham miss a game or two is not a problem.
