Why Mariners GM desperately wanted Kendrys Morales

The reporter ask and answered his own question the GM has got to win now or be can after the 13 season.

The Mariners have also moved in the fences this year. They need to be able to show that it's possible to hit there, even though their pitching will decline as a result.

Morales will have a good season. He hits the ball hard.

M's could use one more OF bat, and I don't mean Raul Ibanez. What a waste of money.

about trading for andrus?? he its young,can hit for average power and its boras client,,,what say you rangers?? the M's are willing to give up some pitching in exchange for major league players,,,

the lack of power hitters in seatle has been in decline, the mariners GM its trying to safe the boat through any sacrifice even if it means drain the farm system though!!

I don't get the Ibanez signing at all. It will be his third time with the team, and the fans like him and all, but about the only role for him is pinch hitting. Maybe they think Jaso's big season was a fluke? Or that minor leaguer Zunio will be ready to catch this season, making Jaso good trade bait?

It's only for 1 yr, but I get your point. Moving the outfield fences in will certainly help to attract more FA's down the road.

It's Lincoln and Armstrong that really need to go along with Zduriencik. The worst front office in baseball for many years.

this guy use to play with seatle in the old stadium, but left about 5 years ago this time he was intrigue by the mariners offer!!!

Ibanez lives in the Seattle area and loves it there. Plus it's a low risk move on management's part since it's only for one year. But I still feel there are one or two more moves left on Jack Z's plate that will soon occur. He's known for keeping things close to the vest. I don't believe too many were aware that Morales was on his radar.

The fans are rightfully upset that it's taken this long to turn this ship around. But they have been putting together a nice nucleus of younger players and Ibanez and Bay are seen as more veteran presence as they move forward.

But it would be nice to have more than two good teams - Seahawks and Sounders - in the city.
