SEC loophole lets Georgia avoid 25-man limit

09:14 AM ET 12.23 | Last year, the SEC passed new rules on "over-signing," including an annual 25-man limit for conference teams. This year, UGA coach Mark Richt told the AJC that he expects to finish with a recruiting class of between 30-35 players. The Bulldogs already have 30 commitments for 2013, with at least a couple of more targets on both sides of the ball. How can that be? How can UGA sign 30-35 if there's a new rule with a 25-man limit? "Early enrollees." Early enrollees is a loophole created by the SEC when it talked tough and passed the over-signing rules last year.

Looks like he might have gotten a glimpse into Saban's handbook of recruiting misdirection, smoke, mirrors and greyshirting: Confusing 18 year olds into selling out their future to potentially upgrade your team but at least deny them to your opponent...

I wouldn't go so far as to call them "rules"

Yeah you're right, that wasn't a very good choice of words on my part!!! I should have said, does any other conference allow this "loophole???

He's just trying to keep up with that mean ole Sabenz!

Another question. Isn't there a NCAA around that says 25 signed schollys per class is max. or as long as a team only has the 85 max by August.

Very good add-in to the SEC Handbook & Smoke and Mirror Guide.

(Man, we need GR here to explain this to us SEC people. You non-SEC people, tough **** !)

Are you effin kidding....how is CMR doing any of that?

I don't understand the problem here. He has the spots to fill. No one is getting cut or processed. This is filling the roster.

The 25 recruit max can be exceeded if you signed less than that the year before. Early enrollees can count toward the 25 limit for the previous year.

Early enrollees are said to be with the class the year before. That's how it works.

Selling out their future to play for National Championships and a future in the NFL?

FYI, Oregon State signs more players per year than any other school in the p12 over the last decade averaging 26.... From 2004 - 2008 Riley signed 36, 30, 33, and 34 as well. Maybe Richt is just following his example?
