07:37 AM ET 12.24 | Will Boston and Mike Napoli, after agreeing to a $39 million deal this offseason, get to signing a deal? While the Red Sox remain tight-lipped about [Napoli's] status, the team's concerns about a hip condition discovered during Napoli's physical are sufficient enough to cast doubt on whether the team will proceed with plans to sign him. "I honestly don't think the outcome has been determined," said one source with direct knowledge of the negotiations when asked Saturday whether the deal could fall through. Red Sox GM Ben Cherington did not reply to an email Saturday citing a source saying the deal was in jeopardy. It will be three weeks Monday since it was reported the Sox and the free-agent catcher/first baseman had come to terms.

If that is the case, dude won't get a good deal from anyone.

It was noted that the Mariners reneged on the opportunity to sign Napoli because of said hip condition.

Somehow I don't see this as a great loss for Boston. They will make do; Napoli will not.

A heavily-incentivized contract may be something both of them can live with.

and this would be the biggest opportunity texas has been waiting, should napoli's deal fail to go through with the red sox?? rangers are waiting for him one million one year deal would be more than enough,,,napoli either warmup the bench or explode in the rangers lineup once again,,,

should napoli take the surgey option? and why napoli do not use the european surgeon as a-rod used two years ago??

you can't by a product if unable to use it, then again the red sox could close their deal with napoli's agent and move to plan B, which it would be a surgery in order to be able to use his service as a regular hitter in boston!!!

Who's next for the Sox's 1st base position?
Gives them more reason to keep Lavarnway close by in Pawtucket as a backup catcher.
