07:39 AM ET 12.24 | Bengie Molina had plans, you see. He had a fishing trip to Alaska, a journey to Europe to "check out some soccer games" and an interest in maybe visiting the Little League World Series in Pennsylvania. He wanted to take his wife, a tennis fan, to one of the summer Grand Slam events. But Wimbledon will have to wait. There are other sites, all similar and only remotely scenic, that Molina will tour in 2013 -- the batting cages of the National League. ... Molina and the Cardinals are in the process of finalizing a contract that will make him the team's new assistant hitting coach. A formal announcement is expected after the holidays. Yadier Molina's older brother will replace John Mabry, who was promoted to hitting coach after Mark McGwire relocated.

Ex catchers make great coaches. I like entwining the Monlina family into the Cardinals organization.

Bengie Molina a hitting coach? What's next, David Ortiz as your infield instructor?

He's only an assistant hitting coach. He'll be carrying the bats and the balls.

How about John Mayberry as Hitting Coach?

Yes, because all successful major league coaches and managers were HOF players. Oh wait, most great coaches and managers were bench warmers and most HOF players are horrible coaches.

I'm just not sure about the merits of having Bengie as a hitting coach. Not sure it makes sense.

There seems to be a great deal of baseball knowledge in the Molina family. I'm more than willing so see Bengie be given a shot at coaching. We've seen time and again that coaching and doing are very different activities.
I thought giving McGwire the job when he had no coaching experience was a bad idea. I was very wrong on that one. I'll give this one a chance before complaining.

sometimes big hof players are just unable to solve the puzzle, could it be because they allways felt no need for that type of a job?? or they just didn't feel the need to be a part of instructors on any league at all??
