Yankees' preference for righty bat is ...

The Yankees missed out. They should have signed Jonny Gomes or Cody Ross as a RH bat in the OF. Also, in my opinion, to free up money they should have dealt Granderson. If teams are paying average players such as Gomes, Ross and Victorino big bucks, someone would have given a few prospects for Granderson (uh, Seattle?).

NY is trying to get under the luxury tax, but it's going to cost them in '13.

My how things have changed down in the Bronx.

Cash is bitching a lot about having the same constraints as every other GM in baseball.

Gomes and Ross were seeking multi-year contracts so they were off the table. Cashman is looking for a one year contract only.

And where could they deal Granderson? Yeah, it's a nice statement to make but there's not much of a market for him. You need a team that is contenting, with prospects to deal and which can also absorb Granderson's 15 mil salary this year. That seriously limits his options. Then that team also has to contend with the fact that Granderson is a FA next year, further limiting his value.

And, I'm sorry, but Seattle isn't contending in the AL West in 2013. The A's remain largely intact, the Angels obviously upgraded and Texas will still be a powerhouse. When the M's have a chance of being in last place, why would Seattle deal prospects for one year of Curtis Granderson?

Don't get me wrong, I would love the Yanks to trade Granderson but the reality is that he is very difficult to move.

Well... Atleast the Yanks would get younger :-)

Shin Soo Choo will be a free agent after 2013, right? Cincy gave up Drew Stubbs and a minor league SS, right?

Someone will always give prospects for a player. Seattle needs offense in a bad way. Other teams could also be willing to deal.

My point is, if the Yanks aren't gonna resign Grandy, deal him.

well, there are a few points missed here, the yankees D WANT to be under their treshold regardless of their nesecity in their lineup, but everything has a price and everything can't be done at the same time, yankees would likely bite their own tail WHY? because apparently they forgot how to asemble the puzzle!!!

2. Choo is a better all-around player than Grandy from a sabermetric perspective. Cincy gave up a career .240 hitter and a non-impact prospect for him. If the Yankees are ok with that return, Seattle will gladly make that trade. There's no way Seattle would give up a top prospect for Grandy who's a 1-year rental and a poor fit in Safeco. Those cheap flyball HRs at Yankees Stadium will now be lazy flyballs at Safeco. And he'll be a defensive liability in the spacious Safeco OF given his declining range (2.3 range factor and -0.7 DWAR last year).

3. The Yanks won't lose him for nothing next year. They will give him a qualifying offer and at worst will get a first round pick from the team that signs Grandy. And that first round pick may be better than anything that teams are offering now for him.

there are thinngs that can wait, and there are things that can't wait everything goes according to the present situation, the yankees should had clean up some hefty contracts then use the available cash to sign players to a one year deal, in the winter meetings were alot options and the yankees ignored assuming they wouldn't need any of those options,,

right now the yankees could finish assembling their roster with a patch team, why would they do that?? money issues? yes but why not use any other approach towards their biggest nesecity?? right now is nothing left in the market, bourn is available but would cost to the yankees,,, best options for this franchise UTILITY PLAYERS, moneywise, save money, and bring cheap product into your team, or trade granderson and get some prospects & free some salary at the same time,,,

but the yankees need to free up some salary in their treshold in order to be able to bring the number down, and the yankees need the right players into their roster now not next year,,,

Almonte will end up as that fourth OF. so says I.

If the Yanks want to deal him, they can. That would free up $$$ for other needs.

Yankees and Red Sox are neck and neck for last place in the AL East next season.

Seattle looks like a .500 ballclub next year. They should have no trouble beating out the Astros for 4th place.
