St. Louis: 'We've done our part'

07:46 AM ET 12.24 | When the history of this season is written, the lockout winners and losers will be sorted -- or has that point already come and gone? The NHL has won its labor war with the players. It's over. Owners have gotten what some estimates say is $1 billion in concessions from players. ... Contract rules will be tightened. Players aren't even arguing existing contracts should be honored. So why are we in Day 99 of the lockout with no end in sight and the fight making its way, perhaps, toward the courts? Because the league wants even more, a position that frustrates Lightning star Marty St. Louis. "The truth is hockey players, our whole life, we're groomed to stick together and fight; when it gets tough, to dig in," he recently said. ... "I think we're being more than reasonable. I think we've done our part."

Marty St. Louis. "The truth is hockey players, our whole life, we're groomed to stick together and fight; when it gets tough, to dig in .... I think we're being more than reasonable. I think we've done our part."

Marty and the NHLPA never heard the famous Kenny Rogers:

"You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table.
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealin's done."

Don't pick a fight you know you can't win, son. You have far more to lose than the owners.

Marty St. Louis easily makes the short list of guys that could play on my team...

He saved that one for his next meeting with Bettman.

Unfortunate how two lost NHL seasons may very well keep him from reaching the 1000 point plateau...

Good comment Roamer. The players hired Fehr seeking Armageddon with the owners and they got their wish. In that respect, I suppose they did do their part.
