07:49 AM ET 12.24 | For Coloradans these days, hockey fans can test the alternatives -- the Denver Pioneers, the Colorado College Tigers, the Denver Cutthroats of the Central Hockey League and the Colorado Eagles of the ECHL. But none of that is the NHL. In Denver, the Kroenke Sports ownership, from all indications, has stood back as commissioner Gary Bettman, deputy commissioner Bill Daly and hard-line owners have championed intransigence. KSE is adding to its image -- fair or otherwise -- as an operation that considers the hockey team an afterthought amid the talk of the "3-ball," "bigs" and weakside help. The NHL deserves credit for doing more than accepting its status as the fourth major league: It revels in it.
