Shurmur may land in Detroit

08:07 AM ET 12.25 | Not only are a number of head coaches on the hot seat -- so, too, are many assistants, including Detroit's offensive coordinator Scott Linehan. The yardage is still there for the Lions, but the touchdowns have dried up, Matt Stafford has taken steps backward and the running game remains an enigma. Much like with AP in Minnesota, even Calvin Johnson's record yardage for the Lions is not expected to be enough to stave off this change. Stafford's ability alone is enough to attract top candidates and when Browns head coach Pat Shurmur is let go by the Browns, league sources would not be surprised to see him get consideration in Detroit (Shurmur is a Detroit native and worked well with another former No. 1 draft pick, Sam Bradford, in St. Louis).

Presumably someone will be coaching the Lions next season, and it is looking more and more like his initials will not be JS.

I tend to agree with you - Schwartz should be gone after this season.
But - is Ford willing to eat that stupid extension through 2015?

The 49ers need a good Offensive Coordinator, one that is friendly to the pass, Greg Roman does all right coordinating a running game but lacks imagination when designing passing plays.

Why would the Lions want this failure?

The Lions had one bad season. Personally, I think Jim Schwartz deserves another year. If they repeat this year's performance next season then he should be fired but not until then.

What I'm thinking, Cleveland, St. Louis? Wheres the winner in that. He might have ruined a few QBs than helped.

So fans in Cleveland are complaining about Shurmer's interference and input in the ultra conservative play calling of the Browns, Shurmer can't seem to crack the end zone....but going to Detroit will change that for him and the Lions?? LOL. Good luck!
