08:27 AM ET 12.25 | After more than 1,000 games (1,026 to be exact) and 530 points, the career of Tomas Holmstrom, who made his debut with the Red Wings during the 1996-97 season, a remarkable feat considering he was drafted No. 257 overall, appears to be coming to an end -- though it likely won't be considered a lockout casualty. I don't think the lockout had any bearing on Holmstrom's situation. No announcement has been made, but I expect him to officially retire once the lockout ends. I'm sure there will be a press conference at Joe Louis Arena. If they announced it during the lockout, players wouldn't be able to attend. Holmstrom isn't skating during the work stoppage, further indication that he's done playing.

This headline is almost a year old, BGM. We've known for a long time that the Wings will not offer him a contract. He's done. About the only thing he can still do is stand in front of the net and run a little interference but, that's not enough.
