08:42 AM ET 12.25 | Last season, two-time All-Star Scott Kazmir was, for all intents and purposes, finished in Major League Baseball. [Kazmir] saw his once-promising pitching career appear to bottom out with [Sugar Land]. ... Now, Kazmir's getting another shot. The Indians ranked 29th out of 30 clubs last season in ERA (4.78), and new manager Terry Francona knows improved pitching is essential to have any chance of competing in the hitter-heavy American League. More than a year removed from taking the mound during a major league game, Kazmir is one good spring away from potentially returning to the Show. "I'm just looking for an opportunity," Kazmir said. "I don't feel like I deserve anything. I feel like I have to go out there and prove myself again. I really do."

Definitely worth the risk. Lefty power pitcher with all star seasons? You bet

December 25, 2012  11:59 AM ET

the angels took a gamble with their right hanson, the injury-rash attach on hanson calendar would likely open doors for any free agent available,,,, joe sanders its lefty and still in the open market should halos bring sanders back to the halos rotation??? neither blaton/neither hanson can do the job as sanders,, KAZMIR would be the very last resord,,

pitching its always a nesecity rather than a luxury, should halos wrong through a thin and weak rotation thanks to their uknown availability from hanson and CJ WILSON???

December 25, 2012  12:03 PM ET

the angels wrecked their rotation, and they went even farther their catching doesn't look that good either,,,

kazmir last pitch in the majors back in the 2010 season, joe sanders has better posibilities than KAZMIR but you never know at the end,,!

December 25, 2012  12:07 PM ET

as long KAZMIR has the ability to find his quality pitch and get the right feel in the ball the next step should be easy to figureout,,,

December 25, 2012  12:52 PM ET

all the attention its on KAZMIR, but about kyle lohse? it could be that lohse can't sign thanks to his greedy agent boras???

Super move by the Indians. This guy could come back and be a force. He's not even 30 yet! And if he doesn't work out, so what? No loss.

Best of luck, dude once was sky was the limit type prospect. Of course some had thought he was an injury waiting to happen.

Best of luck to him. Seems like a good guy.

I don't think he'll ever be a force, but I agree that's a low risk signing for the Injuns.

Unfortunately pretty much every signing by the Tribe is "low risk"!
