Merril Hodge: Tim Tebow is "as phony as a $3 bill"

03:04 AM ET 12.26 | If there's one thing ESPN likes more than stroking its own ego, it's stroking Tim Tebow's ego. But we had some Tebow hate on the four letter network recently, and it may have been the culmination of a season of embarrassment for ESPN when it comes to the rager they had for Tebow since training camp began. Earlier this week, it was reported that Tebow had an argument with New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan over the fact that he'd been skipped over as the No. 2 quarterback in New York. Mind you, Tebow must have had short-term memory loss as he was the No. 3 quarterback that skipped over Brady Quinn last year in Denver. Ron Jaworski fired some shots at Adam Shefter and ESPN's suspect reporting on the issue but Merril Hodge took the bait and ran with it, going on a rant about how Tebow is "as phony as a three-dollar bill" and that he's going to set the Jaguars back, among other things.

From Wikipedia:

"Hoge is a well known short tie aficionado"

I think this says it all.

Merril Hodge is an untalented hack. Not sure really why he has a job. He must have pictures of somebody.

Re: professional football, Tebow is a carnie. But at least he has a back-up plan that allows him to walk on water and turn water into wine ...

All ESPN analysts are hacks and/or psychopaths (yes, Chris Berman, I'm talking to you).

Hodge hasn't liked Tebow since the day he was drafted. Don't know what caused the bad blood but it's there. He said Tebow was a phony when he didn't run the wildcat when it was Rex Ryan's decision. Hodge has let his personal agenda get in the way. Frankly, never liked Merrill Hodge.

QUOTE(#4):

Totally think that Hoge's wife took Tebow's virginity. There is no other explanation.

She took his virginity and then promptly served Merrill with divorce papers.

Hoge sustained another concussion several weeks later, and had to be resuscitated after he stopped breathing. He spent 48 hours in the intensive-care unit and was forced to retire due to brain injury. Hoge had to learn to read again and experienced memory loss, confusion and headaches. He later sued the Bears team doctor and won a $1.55 million judgment.[4]

And E.S.P.N. hired him, says it all.

Well there ya go....that does explain it all.

Or could it be that Hodge watched him play?

December 27, 2012  10:12 AM ET

Hoge must be a Rex Ryan sycophant.

The phrase is actually "**** as a two dollar bill," and dates from the days before "****" was slang for homosexual, and when two dollar bills were the counterfeiters favorite bill. Today the equivalent would have to be "phony as a fifty dollar bill," since $50's are the current favorite among counterfeiters. (It was the $20 for most of the last half-century, but in the last decade has switched to the $50 because $20's aren't worth enough any more.)

Anyway, Hodge doesn't know what he is talking about.

Actually, the saying was "three dollar bill" and the reason was there was no such thing, so if you found one it was definitely going to be "****".
