Sleeper pick to make Tigers in 2014

08:14 AM ET 12.26 | Tigers fans may want to keep tabs on righty Victor Larez. If Larez, 25, continues to progress in 2013 the way he did this past season, he could be a sleeper pick to reach the big leagues in a couple seasons. He could just as easily end up being out of the organization's plans if he stumbles. Larez struck out 59 batters and allowed two home runs in 68 innings this past season at Class A Lakeland. ... Larez (6-3, 160) has continued to pitch well for Caracas in the Venezuela Winter League. He has a 0.83 ERA in 30 appearances. He has 24 strikeouts and has allowed 18 hits and 11 walks in 32 2/3 innings. Larez won't be in the major league camp in spring training but could be in 2014 if he winds up pitching well at Double-A Erie this season.

The man is a long shot to make it to the Motor City because in 14 he will be 27.

I'm more interested in Nick Castellanos. Where will he play? Will it be with Detroit?

He'll play in Detroit. In right field. In 2014.

If you don't have a picture of the guy, you could at least put up a pencil sketch composite of anybody.

That is the oldest looking 25 year old ever!

December 26, 2012  11:35 AM ET

if the tigers do have the produvct ready its no need to trade him,,,,

Yep...

25 Year Old in Class A is close to "If he was gonna make it... he would have made it by now"...

Also - at 6-3 and 160, someone one should introduce him to the Golden Corral on those long Minor League Bus trips.

I think they may trade him elsewhere to fill a hole (middle infield, bullpen).

If the right deal comes along, then yes. But I'd expect Porcello (much to my chagrin) to get dealt to fill the middle infield hole first. And don't count on a trade being made to bolster the bullpen. There are plenty of FAs out there who are cheap and can plug those holes.

To be fair, they use the Leyland pic for EVERY Tiger thread. Even the Verlander ones.

Did I miss something? What kind of hole are they gonna fill with this guy?

You expect them to get a Major league player (Mid IF / Reliever)?

Maybe he would qualify as one of those "player to named later" guys.

Just looked him up - He has 6 years in the Minor's and never broke of A Ball, and the year before last (at 24 years old) he pitched 94 innings - with 107 hits & 62 K's...

Hard to get any pics out of Venezuela. Paranoia.
