08:12 AM ET 12.26 | Amar'e Stoudemire had hoped to play against his former team Wednesday in Phoenix, but he sounded optimistic his season debut nears -- possibly when the Knicks return home to face Portland on New Year's Day. Ring in the new Stoudemire. "It's possible," Stoudemire said. "That would be awesome if I'm able to. It's a possibility. If I keep improving, I should be ready to go." But nothing is ever certain with Stoudemire's left knee. He experienced soreness after his two D-League practices last week, ruining his potential debut on this West Coast trip. He has all but ruled out playing in Sacramento on Friday. Yesterday was the third time Stoudemire has spoken to the media since Oct. 19, when he reinjured his knee. "I just want to make sure I'm 100 percent."

They need Amare more than ever.
You don't live by three's you die by them, and I said this before....what happens when the knicks aren't hitting their three pointers?
Who is gonna step up?
Chandler isn't that good offensively and Melo & Felton and J R all attempt more three's than dunks, so without Amare they aren't ready to reach the ECF.
heat champ/raptors…

I really hope he can stay healthy the rest of the season and post season. Given his old team doctor's didn't want to guarantee past year 3, there's enough reason to believe he's done. Go Knicks. I think we're missing Sheed more than we think. Hopefully STAT can come in and play hard on both sides of the floor like he's got something to prove.

You got a valid point. Secondly by playing Melo at 4 (Amare's natural position), it is rewarding bad behavior. Melo needs to get in shape to play his small forward position. By getting too fat to handle those duties coach rewards him by having him take Amare's position. It's not fair and will only come back to bite...
Yes Amare's health can not be trusted but having Melo's fatness relegate him to a bench player is not the best solution.
