Letting Pierzynski walk may haunt Hahn

08:13 AM ET 12.27 | The Rangers, after losing Mike Napoli and another big bat in Josh Hamilton, found a need for A.J. Pierzynski. While the White Sox head into 2013 with their fingers crossed that Tyler Flowers can hit in the big leagues, the Rangers are expecting -- or at least hoping -- a 36-year-old can duplicate his career-best performance at the plate from 2012. ... Allowing him to walk away without even an offer is a dangerous one for Rick Hahn, the new White Sox general manager, and I think he's going to regret it. Money is always a factor, and it played a role in this situation. Hahn said Wednesday that while his decision reflects his faith in Flowers, there was an issue of "prioritizing" the team's other needs.

The White Sox haven't done a damn thing other than sign Jeff Keppinger this off season as the Tigers and even the Royals have gotten better.

The White Sox will regress a little this year. How much did AJ mean to the pitching staff? We're about to find out.

I can understand why the Sox GM didn't want to pay AJ 11 mill next year at his age. You have to remember they are probably in the weakness division in the AL and now there are two wild cards.

No one is paying Pierzynski $11 million this year.

No one will know what they will do until the games are played. Also, not signing a 36 year old catcher isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Two questions:1) What happened to Ken Williams?2) Can you admit that the Indians are kicking the White Sox arses in the offseason?

the white sox are a very talented team, and sometimes the sox would surprise every team, the way sox move in their league its hard to tell when they could flip players in mid-seson, or at the end of the season!!!

not too hip on the Rangers signing this guy ... but, they do need a catcher ...

Ken Williams was promoted. Also, signing Nick Swisher means the Indians have severely regressed.

1. Ken Williams was promoted to VP of baseball operations, Rick Hahn was promoted from assistant GM to GM. He's been with the Sox since 2004?

2. Yes, as a Sox fan I find myself wishing we'd do more this offseason.

No they aren't. They are paying him $7.5 million. So much for that then.

You should get over the fact you don't like him due to a reputation and be happy you have a good offensive catcher.

That says little when they really suck in the first place.

December 27, 2012  05:27 PM ET

This is a good move for Texas, they just upgraded their catching and Pitching, AJ will do a good job with this Staff!

And the Tigers added Torii Hunter and Victor Martinez, who is returning from injury, plus Anibel Sanchez.
