08:20 AM ET 12.27 | Don Cherry has himself another target. [Cherry] isn't happy about Russian sniper Nail Yakupov's comments regarding Canadian hockey players. The commentator used Twitter to respond to a report Yakupov told a Russian website that Canadian players are "dirty." The No. 1 pick of the 2012 NHL by the Edmonton Oilers, Yakupov played two seasons with the OHL's Sarnia Sting, collecting 80 goals and 80 assists in 107 games. "I see where Nail Yakupov said Canadian hockey players are dirty," Cherry tweeted Wednesday. "Let me see ... We let him take a Canadian kids (sic) spot in the Canadian Hockey League, let him learn his hockey in our program, treat him royally, give him great coaching so he can go number one overall and he calls us Dirty."

I find this all very, very disturbing.

Who'd have ever thought Cherry would be on Twitter.

December 27, 2012  08:46 AM ET

Of course Yakupov will respond by saying his comments were taken out of context.

Let's try that again shall we?

all Canadian players all dirty?! Just like all Russian players are lazy players that don't play defense.

Holy Mackeral......who knew?

Although I think I heard that earlier about the Russians. From Sid I think. He said they were all lazy except for Geno.

:-)

Gonna be a real interesting moment when Nail walks into the Oilers dressing room next year. Captain Canada will likely be real impressed.

Ah, but I remember the Russian Five of the Wings, who played some good 'D' but didn't have to because they had the puck most of the time.

December 27, 2012  10:46 AM ET

So he's starting out his NHL life living in Canada on a team that is predominantly Canadian and he thinks Canadian players are dirty. Better watch your back Yak because nobody will have it if you keep up that kind of talk.

Yes, but only once. Not only is he showing off his English, he's showing he has no idea how to put those words in a sentence. Which is probably what he'll get when he gets his first fast car over here (as in here in the west)

I find it more disturbing that I actually agree with Cherry for once...

Seems as if Yakupov thinks that he deserves a free pass to the front of the net just because of who he is. I hope that isn't his attitude going into the nhl...

Wait till he gets (when/if) to Edmonton. He better be ready for a lot of that.

Cherry is a dope that needs to be retired and Yakupov should just shut his mouth and play hockey
