08:22 AM ET 12.27 | Playing goal at the IIHF World Junior Championship isn't always an enviable job, something Malcolm Subban has found out quickly this time around. Team Canada coach Steve Spott has moved to try and reduce the potential distraction of a goaltending controversy by declaring Subban as his man for the tournament. ... [Said Team Canada goaltending consultant Ron Tugnutt]: "People are putting him down as a failure before he even has a chance. Everyone in Canada is saying our goaltending is a big failure. We've only played one game in the tournament. Give the guy a chance. Give him a chance. Everyone has already discounted him as a failure before we even get there," he said. "That's sad. That's wrong. He hears it. He knows."

Everyone in Canada is saying our goaltending is a big failure.
I'm kind of upset that my Canadian hockey brethren are being disparaged by a tugnut.

I'm not sure I'd blame him for this one. A short handed goal where the four Canadians were mesmorized like Tim Bits.

He needs to make this stop but I wouldn't 'blame' him on this one either.

He seems to be excellent when the play is in front of him. When he has to quickly move east to west in the crease it gets sketchy.

HC said he was a little slow east to west. I'm thinking when the games are over he'll be a little faster from east back to the west.

You're right on both points but, he reserves his best play for when the action is on the other end of the ice.

Poor Germany - getting thumped by the U.S. right after Canada. I have to give them credit though , against Canadas 4th line they were superior. If Canada gets to the medal round they better just roll the top 3 lines.

I like that, HC. Not many of your fellow Canucks are as realistic as you are. Most wear blinders and think Canada deserves the Gold Medal by just showing up.

Sounds like a certain goalie that is rumored to be Toronto's starter

i just got a very accurate e-mail from Whale 2 . He states that if Canada does not adjust to the tight officiating and stay out of the box , a gold medal is a pipe dream. I am really looking forward to the Russia vs USA game. Go YANKS !!!

I think Suban is the right guy. Lately Team Canada has picked the goalie who has had a good camp not the one who has played the best over a season or two. If the boys can't stay out of the penalty I doubt it will matter who the goalie is.
