08:23 AM ET 12.27 | Years ago, a lockout nightmare shook from its slumber right around this time. There was good news after 103 days of the first NHL lockout back on Jan. 11, 1995 when a new collective bargaining agreement was reached and a shortened 48-game season began nine days later, on Jan. 20. But as the current labour stoppage hits Day 103 on Thursday, hockey fans are not expecting a similar announcement. The NHL and NHL Players' Association have not been in contact for five days since last speaking by phone on Saturday. There are no new talks scheduled between the two sides. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has said that in the current labour situation, a 48-game schedule would, at minimum, need to be saved to allow a season to be played.

He's still flapping his itty bitty gums so I guess hockey fans didn't get their Christmas wish.

Bettman doesn't care if there's a season or not, he never did.

December 27, 2012  10:38 AM ET

Guess the NHL is also going over the cliff.

Exactly right. He just wants to show everyone how "tough" a negotiator he is. And Fehr is the same way on the other side of the table. And the 700+ members of the NHLPA are so dumb that they still haven't figured out that they will NEVER, EVER get back what they have already lost in salary for this season. It's gone. If the league gave them everything they ever wanted the 50% of their salary for this year will never come back.

So Fehrless Leader and The Dwarf.............congratulations! 700 + players lose, thousands of those who earn a living from the game at arenas, parking lots, ticket bureaus, restaurants etc. are unemployed. 30 owners haven't sold a ticket. But you guys are mighty tough. Stupid, yes. But really tough. When you resume play, if ever, Gary, I understand the Shopping Channel has a really hot TV deal for you.

Well said Slappy. My hope is the greed and the stupidity both the players and owners have shown comes back and bites them in the a-s-s. If and when they solve this thing I hope the arenas are filled like they used to get on a bad night in Atlanta.
