12:31 PM ET 12.27 | Green Bay Packers center Jeff Saturday was named to the 2012 NFC Pro Bowl roster on Wednesday, but it would be hard to argue that the veteran offensive lineman truly deserved his sixth career Pro Bowl nomination. Saturday was benched by Packers coach Mike McCarthy and replaced by Evan Dietrich-Smith in Week 16 -- just days before Saturday was honored as a top NFC performer this season -- so the Pro Bowl nomination made for awkward conversation the following day. Saturday said he would love to be able to pass the torch to another Packers offensive lineman in the Pro Bowl.

Why would he have been named to the Pro Bowl if he didn't deserve to be there?

Yet another reason the Pro Bowl is as worthless as any all star game there is.

It is 100% name recognition. Look at Gurode for Dallas. Noone knew anything about him, with good reason because he sucked, until train wreck Haynesworth stomped on his face. After that he made 4 probowls, all while not being able to perform a simple shotgun snap. Seriously, how many centers do you know? If they are good, you don't hear the announcer even mention their name. Same with gaurds.
