Texas Longhorns may try to lure Mike Gundy

10:41 PM ET 12.27 | When Mike Gundy was reportedly offered the head coaching gig at Tennessee, he refused to leave his alma mater to take an SEC job that could have paid off big. It was then that we asked ourselves: is there was any job that Gundy would leave Stillwater for, or would he stay in place at Oklahoma State until he was fired or felt it right to leave? Meanwhile, over in Austin, Texas, long time Longhorns head coach Mack Brown has seen succession plan after succession plan fall through when it comes to handing off the reins of the Texas head coaching job to the next era. But while there still isn't a secure or smooth transition in place, the clock is ticking on Brown's time with the Longhorns. Like we're baking Christmas cookies, let's combine these two ingredients and see if they mix. If Mack Brown retires at the end of the 2013 season, could Mike Gundy see the Texas coaching job as something he'd leave Stillwater for?

Mack Brown and Nick Saban are the same age and make roughly the same money.
Yet, one looks like a beaten old man, while the other is at the crest of his profession.
If Mack really cares about Longhorn football, he would step down.
How much more money does he need?

Gundy would get skewered in Stillwater if he left to go to Texas. At least if he had taken the Tennessee job, it was in a different conference.

Hmmmm....from strictly a CFB coaching point of view....Okie Lite vs TU.
I would have to say that TU > Okie Lite and would be easier recruiting...or should I say "selecting".

Texas will hire Big when Mack Brown retires.
They'll get a Saban "like" pick. Les Miles would be a good choice.

12-0 deal with it…

That might be so, but MB's recruiting classes don't turn out all that well in the end!!! He lets too many good players leave the state. Also teams like, Tennessee, Auburn, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Miami and even Cal, have good recruiting classes every years, but what were/is their win/loss records over the last five years.

Now LK is a very good recruiter for USC, but he is just like MB, he can't coach up his recruits.
