08:03 AM ET 12.28 | Former 49er and current Arizona guard Adam Snyder will leave it up to the Cardinals' front office to decide the team's future at quarterback, but, if anyone asked him about Alex Smith, he'd offer a strong recommendation. "If someone asked me about him, I would tell them exactly what I thought," Snyder said on a conference call. "I think the guy's got unbelievable character, and I think he's a leader. Obviously, he and I came in together (in 2005). So I've got a special place for him." Several teams will be looking for a starting quarterback in the offseason. One of them promises to be Arizona, which will start its fourth quarterback -- Brian Hoyer -- of the season in Sunday's regular-season finale in San Francisco.

And just where is that "special place"?

Hopefully it's not the special place Sanchez tried to visit relative to his RG.

Poor Alex finally has something going on with a winning team, then suddenly it's over and he's looking at being deported to somewhere like Arizona.

And that didn't work out too well for Sanchez.

Would the Niners dare deal Smith to a team within their own division? I'm not so sure.

Smith will start next year, but it will be for Buffalo, Philly, the Jets, or another team that needs a QB. Probably not the Cardinals.
As for trading him, when is his contract up? If the 49ers just let him go, Smith can sign with whomever.

I see the Cards going for a backup with starter potential ala Schaub, Cassell, etc. Less risky than a draft and with Floyd and Fitzgerald you can make a decent QB look like a good QB.

Yes the Cards would wecome any QB that doesn't wear thick glasses off the field.

First of all the Cards need to address the biggest weakness on the team the O line and then get a QB.

Agreed. Until they fix the O line it doesn't matter who is their QB.

For some reason, I would not put that past Jim Harbaugh.

Me neither, in fact I think Smith is not done playing for the 49ers yet, let's see Sunday. But I think he doesn't worry about the Cards as much as he does the Seahawks
