08:15 AM ET 12.28 | Nearly a month after the two parties agreed to a nearly $40-million deal, the Red Sox have another bump in the road to signing Mike Napoli. According to multiple baseball sources, at least one team has been in communication with [Napoli's] representatives regarding the free agent infielder's status since negotiations with the Red Sox hit a snag. According to one source, it is believed no contract offer has been extended by a team other than the Sox since the early December agreement with Boston. The Red Sox and Napoli have yet to finalize a three-year, $39 million deal -- which was agreed upon on Dec. 3 -- due to concerns surfaced after the 31-year-old underwent the Red Sox' physical examination.

Walk away Boston, and go after Adam LaRoche while he is still available. This guy is damaged goods.

I agree. And if he has physical problems, why would any other team be contacting him?

I don't know how the term 'swooping in' relates to this situation when no other team has offered Napoli a contract.

Seattle? The White Sox? Yankees?

I'm thinking the "mystery team" is an agent induced rumor.

Exactly; what team will offer him anything like the deal he may have with the Sox if he's got some medical issues?
Hang tough, and let's see where this goes. They can find another 1st base player if needed, but not one with the ability to fill in as a catcher, if his hip is up to it.

I cannot understand why you haven't sign that 39 million contact, unless your agent is putting out there that there are more teams interested in you, or you have been hit in the face mask to much to know that this is a good deal for you.

.....napoli will be the new dh back at texas.....which was the plan all along....those rangers are very clever....

I'm sure your right. Both sides are playing the leverage game right now. Sox leaking they are kicking the tires on LaRoche and now Napoli's agent leaks about other teams calling. Sox just need to get the deal done with Napoli or trade for maybe Morse from the Nats, stay away from LaRoche, not because I don't like the guy, just not worth losing the 2nd rd draft pick and more importantly the pool money which the Sox can allocate for a superb 1st rd pick.

I seriously doubt the original contract is still on the table at this point.

well it should be the yanks isn't? i mean the yankees are the ones WHO are in the treshold process, but why the yanks can't even try their luck with this oportunity at the present moment??then again the rangers would get benefit from this dark spot in napoli!!!

the way things are unfolding,,,, napoli remains as a free agent, and every team still has every right to make a lousy offer why??? because napoli its a incomplete player as it is!!
