Hairston still on Yankees' radar

08:17 AM ET 12.28 | The addition of veteran Matt Diaz apparently won't keep Brian Cashman from seeking even more depth for an outfield that, if the season started today, would include Brett Gardner, Curtis Granderson and Ichiro Suzuki as its starters. The Yankees had no interest in keeping Nick Swisher, who signed a four-year, $56 million deal with the Indians. The Yankees still have an interest in signing another outfielder and remain interested in Scott Hairston. Diaz, who turns 35 in March, is a lifetime .291 hitter. He struggled last season, batting .222 with two home runs in only 108 at-bats because of a right thumb injury that required surgery. He has had thumb issues for several years, dating back to a backyard injury at his Lakeland, Fla. home.

If the Nats sign LaRoche then Morse would be available and a good pick up for the Yanks.

I think the Yankees are hoping Grandy has a good start, and then they may deal him.
There are still teams that need offense, such as Seattle, and moving his salary this year would allow the Yanks to fill a few gaps that will arise, such as catcher.

I'd be surprised if we win the division again this year, and even that hardly matters when we get so convincingly spanked in the league championship.

Totally agree. These are just one year blunder options. It appears Andruw Jones hit his wife more consistently than he did the baseball last year. They will love him in the Land of the rising Sun..

There must be some mistake. Hairston's only 32. Yankees don't want those youngsters.

Why? He'd be a good addition to the bench and a huge upgrade over Andruw Jones. He hit 20 HRs last year playing at Citifield and had a .863 OPS against lefties. He's also only in his early 30s and can play multiple positions.

Dream on, Yankees fans. What do you have that the Nationals would want?
Several teams would want Morse just as badly, and probably have more prospects to deal.

Yeah, the nats hold all the cards, ha!
This is a move for a 4th OF or platoon player. I doubt they trade anything for that.
