08:27 AM ET 12.28 | Erik Karlsson's European vocation will come to a close this weekend. The Ottawa Senators defenceman has been playing for Helsinki-based Jokerit of the Finnish Elite League since the fall, when the National Hockey League imposed what is now a [104-day] lockout. The Norris Trophy-winning blueliner has decided to let his month-to-month contract expire and return to his native Sweden to wait out the NHL's collective bargaining agreement, however. In an e-mail exchange Thursday morning, Jokerit general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said it was a pleasure having Karlsson aboard for the past few months. "Erik was excellent, we were very happy and it was a pleasure having him," Kekalainen said. "He will be missed. Good player and a great guy."

This is from the Ottawa Citizen Spiny. The Toronto Sun is running an unverified story about him violating somebody's goat.

That's probably because he's a Swede. It seems to be the North American players that have had a difficult time adjusting to playing abroad.

Did you see the Canada vs Slovakia game G.Bay ? I was kind of embarrassed of our guys lethal elbow to the head hit. They think he will only get a 1 game suspension , but i hope he gets tossed. That stupidity is wrong , and against The USA, Russia, or Sweden it could cost us a medal.

Another disenchanted NHLer leaving Europe?

YAAAAAWWWWNNN!!!!

Wake me up when it's over!

Where were you yesterday, HC? Yakupov ... um ... Nail-ed it. The Canadians play dirty! I can hardly wait for the Monday game!! To quote the great Don Cherry: "It should be a beauty!"

BTW, you are right on the last point. The Canadians are their own worst enemies at this point. It hasn't cost them yet but, it will come back to bite them in the arse if they don't smarten up.

No I haven't...mentioned yesterday that I have no use for the actions of guys like Jenner (embarassed he was on team this year due to last year's act) and former members like Jordin Tootoo and Steve Downie.
Forgot to add Huberdeau to the list due to his abuse of on-ice officials earlier this year in the Q...Hockey Canada, for all its tough talk, is afraid to take a stand!
